Property Photography - Home Barn - Worcestershire

Over the past few years, I've photographed countless barn conversions – but this one in Worcestershire was quite remarkable.

A gorgeous property with dark wood panelling and a Stonehenge-like tribute out front, it certainly cut a striking figure, standing at the top of a seemingly endless private driveway.

The setting was amazing enough, but there was another more memorable aspect of this twilight shoot for me… I actually had a decent sky to work with!

I'd estimate that I've had to 'photoshop' sunsets in to 95% of my twilight images. To be honest, I'm starting to run out of decent sky photos that I can swap in! This image, though, is all natural…

This property had a very modern, minimalist kitchen and when I shot the interiors, the sky was solid cloud. So, I cracked out two AD600s and made my own sunshine [read more here]! This time, I mimicked late afternoon light, flooding in from the left. To achieve this, I aimed one light through the doors by the kitchen and aimed the second light through a kitchen window.

For the kitchen shot below, I flipped the lights around and created 'morning sun' coming through the window on the right. I used a very high shutter speed to block out ambient light coming from the left and to keep the breakfast bar area dark. By doing this, the eye automatically travels through the image and focuses on the centre of the kitchen.

The final image from this shoot is of the living room, where again, I created the perfect lighting – warm and welcoming! As before I used two AD600s, one for each window, to imitate late afternoon sunlight.
